  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Hip injury not long-term concern

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Tuesday there's "no concern at all" about the long-term health of Tagovailoa (hip), Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. The QB logged just 11 regular-season appearances in 2024, missing time due to a concussion he sustained in Week 2 and then a hip injury that forced him to sit out the final two games of the year. The 26-year-old had expressed optimism about his ability to play if the Dolphins had made the playoffs, but Tagovailoa will instead turn his attention toward returning to full health in time for OTAs. Grier offered optimism about Tagovailoa's ability to continue improving, Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald reports, but he also noted that the quarterback's injury history and difficulty staying in the lineup had negatively impacted Miami's ability to attain playoff success, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Tagovailoa completed 291 of 399 pass attempts for 2,867 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2024, but his 2025 production could be impacted if disgruntled top wideout Tyreek Hill forces his way out of Miami.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Inactive Sunday

Tagovailoa (hip) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets. After being deemed limited at practice this past week, Tagovailoa was listed as doubtful for the contest, a designation that aligned with head coach Mike McDaniel having noted Friday that it was "unlikely" the QB would see any action Sunday. With Tagovailoa officially inactive for the second straight week, Tyler Huntley will draw another start for the Dolphins, who need a win (coupled with a Denver loss in Week 18) to qualify for the postseason. For his part, Tagovailoa has expressed confidence that he'll be available next week should the team make the playoffs, per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN, indicating "if the cards play out the way they should and the way we know and think they can, I'm going to be available next week...no, ifs, ands or buts." That said, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggests that it's not a given Tagovailoa would be cleared by next weekend in such a scenario, considering the nature of the hip injury the signal-caller is contending with.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Absence could extend into playoffs

Tagovailoa (hip) -- who remains listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Jets -- could also be at risk of missing a potential wild-card playoff contest if the Dolphins are able to clinch a postseason spot, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Tyler Huntley is tracking toward making a second straight start Sunday in place of Tagovailoa, whom Rapoport relays is tending to a unique hip injury that has "affected the surrounding muscles and therefore his strength and mobility." The hip issue would leave Tagovailoa vulnerable to further injury if he tries to play through it, which may put him at risk of missing the start of the playoffs if the Dolphins secure a spot with a win over the Jets plus a Broncos loss to the Chiefs. Tagovailoa initially injured his hip in a Week 15 loss to the Texans, and the injury worsened the following week in the Dolphins' win over the 49ers.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Listed as doubtful for Sunday

Tagovailoa (hip) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game at the Jets, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Tagovailoa's listing on the Dolphins' final Week 18 practice report isn't a surprise after coach Mike McDaniel told Travis Wingfield of the team's official site on Friday that it's "unlikely that Tua will see any action" Sunday. McDaniel also spoke of Tagovailoa's particular injury. "I wouldn't say it's a bruise, but it's kind of a unique muscle issue as a result of the hip," McDaniel relayed to Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com. Assuming Tagovailoa is among Miami's list of inactives about 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, as expected, Tyler Huntley will earn a second start in a row.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Status uncertain for Week 18

Coach Mike McDaniel said after Sunday's 20-3 win over the Browns that Tagovailoa's (hip) status for Week 18 against the Jets is uncertain, per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, though McDaniel added that surgery isn't on the table. Tyler Huntley kept Miami's faint playoff hopes afloat by putting on his best Tagovailoa impression against the Browns, completing 22 passes with only four incompletions and even showcasing his superior mobility with 52 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Dolphins can make the playoffs with a win over the Jets and a Broncos loss in Week 18, so Tagovailoa will be motivated to play if possible, but his hip injury would need to improve during the week for that option to be on the table from a medical standpoint.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Downgraded to doubtful

Tagovailoa (hip) has been downgraded to doubtful for Sunday's game against the Browns, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Tagovailoa, who was listed as a limited participant on the Dolphins' practice reports this week, had been listed as questionable, but the downgrade in his status suggests he's on track to being sidelined for the first time since missing four games from Week 3 through 7 with a concussion. Per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, if Tagovailoa is inactive versus Cleveland, Tyler Huntley would be in line to start at quarterback, with Skylar Thompson serving as the backup. The presence of Huntley under center rather than Tagovailoa would represent a downgrade to the fantasy projections of all of Miami's pass catchers.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Listed as questionable

Tagovailoa (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Cleveland. A limited practice participant throughout the week, Tagovailoa seems more likely than not to play, especially because Miami remains in the hunt for a wild-card spot. Still, fantasy managers should at least consider the possibility Tagovailoa lands on the inactive list ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, in which case Tyler Huntley would step in as Miami's starting quarterback. Starting wideouts Tyreek Hill (wrist) and Jaylen Waddle (knee) also are listed as questionable, although Hill is in the same boat as Tagovailoa (i.e., it'll be a surprise if he doesn't play). Waddle is the one who appears truly questionable/uncertain, having missed the team's Week 16 win over San Francisco.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Modest numbers in win

Tagovailoa completed 22 of 34 pass attempts for 215 yards and a touchdown while rushing twice for a loss of one yard in Sunday's 29-17 win over San Francisco. Tagovailoa played the role of game manager in Sunday's comfortable win, letting Miami's rushing attack and defense handle the 49ers. The Alabama product showed no ill effects from the hip injury that limited the signal-caller during the practice week. The win kept the Dolphins' slim playoff hopes alive, so the team will need more mistake-free football from Tagovailoa against the Browns next Sunday.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Clear for Sunday

Tagovailoa (hip) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game versus the 49ers, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Tagovailoa opened Week 16 prep with back-to-back limited practices due to a hip injury, but offensive coordinator Frank Smith told Furones on Thursday that the quarterback's health wasn't a concern. Indeed, Tagovailoa capped the week with a full session Friday, paving the way for him to continue to direct the Dolphins offense. Having said that, he likely will be working with a depleted receiving corps Sunday, as Tyreek Hill (wrist/personal) is listed as questionable, while both Jaylen Waddle (knee) and Dee Eskridge (knee) are doubtful to suit up.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Still limited at practice

Tagovailoa (hip) remained limited at practice Thursday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Per Furones, offensive coordinator Frank Smith previously indicated that Tagovailoa's hip issue isn't concerning, a notion that would be supported by the QB practicing fully to close out the week. Friday's injury report is destined to relay whether Tagovailoa approaches Week 16 action with an injury designation or fully cleared to face the 49ers on Sunday.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

Tagovailoa scored a season-low 5.8 Fantasy points in Week 15 at Houston, which included three interceptions. It was the first time he threw an interception since Week 10, and this performance snapped a four-game streak where he scored at least 27.5 Fantasy points. Hopefully he can bounce back against the 49ers, but this is a tough matchup. Only three quarterbacks all season have scored at least 20 Fantasy points against San Francisco, which includes Sam Darnold in Week 2, Kyler Murray in Week 5 and Josh Allen in Week 13. The Dolphins offensive line is a concern, and Jaylen Waddle (knee) could be out. I would only start Tagovailoa in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in Week 16.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Forgettable afternoon in key game

Tagovailoa completed 29 of 40 passes for 196 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions and lost a fumble in the Dolphins' 20-12 loss to the Texans on Sunday. Tagovailoa's final line underscores how much of a sluggish afternoon it was for the talented quarterback, even in the climate-controlled conditions of NRG Stadium. The fact Jaylen Waddle exited the game with a knee injury in the first half and never returned certainly didn't help Tagovailoa's cause, but he played the biggest role in his and the Dolphins' undoing with his four turnovers, the first two of which helped lead to 10 points for the Texans. Tagovailoa's final miscue of the afternoon, his third interception of the season, was the most ill-timed, considering it came on the first play of what could have evolved into a game-tying drive for Miami. The fifth-year pro had thrown just four interceptions all season coming in, but Sunday marked his second three-pick tally of the season. Tagovailoa will look to keep the Dolphins' increasingly thin playoff hopes alive against a tough defense similar in style and caliber to that of the Texans when he faces the 49ers in a Week 16 home clash.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Third straight 300-yard game

Tagovailoa completed 33 of 47 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 32-26 overtime win over the Jets. He also threw a two-point conversion and rushed once for three yards. Tagovailoa completed 15 of 18 passes for 165 yards in the first half but failed to produce a passing touchdown. His completion percentage fell off after halftime, but Tua threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill followed by a two-point conversion to Jaylen Waddle to tie the game 23-23 with 9:04 remaining in the fourth quarter. The quarterback later guided the Dolphins into position for a game-tying 52-yard Jason Sanders field goal in the final seconds of regulation, then drove right down the field on the first possession of overtime to clinch the victory with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jonnu Smith. Tagovailoa has topped 300 passing yards in three consecutive starts while posting an 8:0 TD:INT over that span, and he'll look to keep rolling in Week 15 against the Texans.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Sleeper QBs

Tagovailoa finally had the breakout game we've been waiting for in Week 11 against Las Vegas with a season-high 29.5 Fantasy points. He's now scored at least 21.5 Fantasy points in two of his past three games, and hopefully, he's getting hot at the right time heading into the Fantasy points. This week, Tagovailoa should have another solid outing against the Patriots, who have allowed at least 21.3 Fantasy points to three of the past four opposing quarterbacks. I like Tagovailoa as a top-10 Fantasy quarterback in Week 12.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Sharp performance in Week 11 win

Tagovailoa completed 28 of 36 passes for 288 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions and committed a fumble recovered by Miami in the Dolphins' 34-19 win over the Raiders on Sunday. Tagovailoa posted his highest yardage total since Week 1 while tying a season high in completions and establishing a new personal season best in touchdown passes. The 2020 first-round pick connected with Jonnu Smith (one yard, 57 yards) and Tyreek Hill (eight yards) for his trio of scoring tosses, and he helmed an impressive four second-half scoring drives to help the Dolphins win going away. Tagovailoa recorded completions to nine different targets overall, affording him plenty of momentum going into a Week 12 home matchup against the Patriots.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: QBs to Start

Tagovailoa has underwhelmed as a Fantasy quarterback since coming back from his four-game absence with a concussion. In three games, Tagovailoa has scored 16.7 Fantasy points or less twice, including a dud of 10.2 points at the Rams in Week 10. But I expect Tagovailoa to bounce back this week against the Raiders, who are No. 8 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks. Four of the past five quarterbacks against Las Vegas have scored at least 22.2 Fantasy points, and I like Tagovailoa coming back home for this game.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Solid in Week 10 win

Tagovailoa completed 20 of 28 passes for 207 yards with a touchdown and an interception and rushed once for minus-1 yard in the Dolphins' 23-15 win over the Rams on Monday night. He also lost a fumble. Tagovailoa took three sacks and fumbled on one of them midway through the second quarter, with Jared Verse scooping up the ball for the Rams at the Dolphins' 36-yard line. While that turnover did lead to a field goal, Tagovailoa played a relatively smooth game otherwise and connected with eight different targets overall. The 2020 first-round pick's one touchdown toss went to Tyreek Hill with 5:32 remaining in the third quarter, and he now draws another favorable matchup when the Raiders visit South Florida for a Week 11 matchup.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Trending toward playing

Tagovailoa (concussion) was activated off injured reserve Saturday ahead Sunday's game against the Cardinals. The quarterback is still listed as questionable, but he's expected to play. The Dolphins didn't remove Tagovailoa's injury designation, but head coach Mike McDaniel already suggested Friday the Pro Bowl quarterback would play. The 26-year-old said he's been symptom-free since Sept. 13, so it's fair to assume the Dolphins offense will effectively return to one of most formidable in the league with Tagovailoa now back.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Clears concussion protocol

Tagovailoa has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and is slated to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. Tagovailoa, who hasn't played since suffering his most recent concussion Sept. 12, thus is slated to be activated off IR ahead of Sunday's contest, which positions him to get back into the starting lineup. His looming return should provide a major lift to the Dolphins offense and boosts the fantasy prospects of the team's pass catchers. Meanwhile, with Tyler Huntley (shoulder) likely unavailable, it looks like either Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle or C.J. Beathard will be in line to back up Tagovailoa on Sunday.

  • Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Consultation with expert on deck

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Tagovailoa (concussion) is scheduled for an "expert consultation" during the team's Week 6 bye, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports. McDaniel said "everything is so far so good" with regard to the franchise quarterback's recovery progress, though he noted "the final stages of protocol won't be achieved until we bring [Tagovailoa] back off IR." Tagovailoa won't be eligible to come off injured reserve until Week 8, at the earliest, positioning Tyler Huntley to remain Miami's starter in the interim, including at least for the team's game against the Colts in Week 7. Tagovailoa had initial meetings with neurologists in early October and is reportedly symptom free. Assuming his recovery continues to progress without any setbacks, it sounds like the Dolphins will plan for him to be back in the starting lineup this season. A clear timetable for Tagovailoa's return to practice remains undisclosed, though.
