  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Cleared for rehab assignment

Fitzgerald (rib) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Fitzgerald will play second base and bat leadoff for the River Cats after missing the last couple weeks with a left rib fracture. He shouldn't require too many rehab games before being activated, potentially setting Fitzgerald up for a return later this week if all goes well.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Could begin rehab games Tuesday

Fitzgerald (rib) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Fitzgerald appears to be progressing well as he works his way back from a left rib fracture, which he suffered in late April. The second baseman shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated, so a return within the next week or so seems likely if he is indeed able to start his rehab assignment Tuesday.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Doing light activities

Fitzgerald (rib) is doing light activities and rehab work, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Fitzgerald suffered a left rib fracture in late April and finally landed on the 10-day injured list on May 1 after tests revealed the diagnosis. He is expected to be sidelined at least two weeks, but it's a good sign that he's already doing some activities.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: On injured list with fractured rib

The Giants placed Fitzgerald on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left rib fracture. Fitzgerald dealt with a chest contusion that sidelined him in both games over the weekend, but was able to return to action Tuesday and Wednesday. After going 1-for-5 in those two contests, he will spend some time on the injured list with Brett Wisely being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday. Fitzgerald had an MRI on Thursday that revealed the fracture, and he expected to be out at least two weeks, per Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Back in lineup

Fitzgerald (chest) will start at second base and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Padres, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. A chest contusion has prevented Fitzgerald from playing in either of the Giants' last two games, but he seems to have fully recovered ahead of Tuesday's contest. The 27-year-old has slashed .294/.351/.412 over the past two weeks, though he is hitless in his last seven trips to the plate.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Not in Sunday's lineup

Fitzgerald (chest) is not in the Giants' starting lineup against the Rangers on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Fitzgerald is dealing with a chest contusion, which caused him to be scratched from Saturday's game against Texas. With the Giants scheduled for a day off Monday, Fitzgerald will head into Tuesday's game against the Padres with a few straight days of rest. Christian Koss will start at second base and bat ninth against Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter (finger) on Sunday.

Fitzgerald was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Rangers due to a chest contusion, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Fitzgerald went 2-for-3 with a run scored during Monday's 5-2 win over the Brewers. Fitzgerald recorded two singles in the win, marking his sixth multi-hit effort over 20 games this season. The 27-year-old infielder provided a crucial spark in the fifth frame, when he hit a leadoff single and later came around to tie the game at 2-2 on a throwing error. Fitzgerald went 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Angels. Fitzgerald capped off his excellent week by reaching base three times and swiping his fifth bag of the year. It was only the second time in his career he's taken multiple walks in a game, and he had just three walks in 18 games coming into Sunday. Fitzgerald has been surging at the plate and is batting .400 over his last 10 games with five extra-base hits, six RBI and seven runs.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Cracks second homer of 2025

Fitzgerald went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies. Fitzgerald struck out in his first three at-bats but launched a 381-foot homer to left field in the ninth inning. The 27-year-old infielder logged at least one hit in all four games of the Giants' series against the Phillies, going 8-for-17 at the plate during that span. Fitzgerald dealt with a lower-back injury during spring training and struggled at the start of the 2025 campaign. When asked about his slow start to the season Wednesday, Fitzgerald said, "I just felt like I had some really bad habits from when I hurt my back in spring training," according to Maria Guardado of MLB.com. However, he has been stellar of late and is now slashing .309/.345/.527 with 10 runs scored, seven extra-base hits, six RBI and a 3:15 BB:K across 60 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Three-hit attack Wednesday

Fitzgerald went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Phillies. The 27-year-old hit a double into the gap in right-center field to plate one of San Francisco's four runs in the seventh inning. Fitzgerald has settled in as the Giants' primary second baseman so far, and he's also parlayed his success in the second half of the 2024 season into a strong start this year. Through 51 at-bats (15 games), Fitzgerald is batting .314 with one home run, four doubles, one triple and four stolen bases. He's especially come alive of late with four multi-hit performances in his past six games.

The 27-year-old showcased power and speed last season with 15 homers and 17 steals over 341 plate appearances but faded late with a .677 OPS in September. Fitzgerald (back) is starting at second base and batting seventh Friday against the Brewers in his Cactus League debut, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Fitzgerald has been brought along slowly after developing a lower-back injury early in camp, but he's been going through full workouts for a few days and is now ready to test things out in game action. The 27-year-old is slated to serve as the Giants' primary second baseman in 2025 following a mini-breakout which saw him post an .831 OPS with 15 homers and 17 steals in 96 games last season.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Slotted in at second base

Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said Monday that he sees Fitzgerald as the team's regular second baseman next season, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Posey couldn't comment on the Willy Adames signing yet because it's not official, but with Adames aboard Fitzgerald will slide over to the keystone. The position is not foreign to Fitzgerald, who started four games at second base for the Giants in 2024 and 87 during his time in the minors. Fitzgerald had a mini-breakout with San Francisco this season, slashing .280/.334/.497 while hitting 15 homers and stealing 17 bases over 96 games.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Won't be everyday shortstop

Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said Tuesday the team will be looking for a shortstop this offseason rather than putting Fitzgerald there on an everyday basis, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Posey referenced Fitzgerald's ability to play multiple positions, perhaps an indication the Giants have the 27-year-old pegged for a super-utility role in 2025. He trailed off in September (.677 OPS), but Fitzgerald still finished with a .280/.334/.497 batting line while hitting 15 homers and stealing 17 bases over 96 games. While his position doesn't appear nailed down yet, Fitzgerald should remain an everyday player for the Giants next season.

Fitzgerald is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Kansas City, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
