Cubs' Cody Poteet: Optioned to Iowa
The Cubs optioned Poteet to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.
Poteet struggled to find his footing this spring, giving up four earned runs over 3.1 innings. He'll head to Iowa to begin the 2025 campaign but is certainly capable of working his way back to the majors after turning in a 2.22 ERA over 24.1 regular-season frames with the Yankees last year.

Cubs' Cody Poteet: Slated to start spring opener
Poteet is in line to start Thursday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers, Jordan Bastian and Sonja Chen of MLB.com report.
Poteet joined the Cubs back in December in the trade that sent Cody Bellinger to the Yankees. Poteet could be minor-league depth once the regular season begins, though with Chicago not using all of its regulars in Thursday's spring training opener, he will get the chance to take the mound. Cubs' Cody Poteet: Dealt to Cubs
The Cubs acquired Poteet from the Yankees on Tuesday in exchange for Cody Bellinger and cash consideration, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Poteet, 30, made four starts and one relief appearance for the Yankees in 2024, collecting a 2.22 ERA and 16:8 K:BB across 24.1 innings. He could be used either as a starter or reliever, with the rotation at Triple-A Iowa perhaps being his most likely destination.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Summoned from minors
The Yankees recalled Poteet from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
He'll rejoin the Yankees ahead of Wednesday's game against the Orioles and provide some length out of the bullpen behind Marcus Stroman, who will be thrust back into the rotation after the club's original scheduled starter, Nestor Cortes, landed on the injured list with a left elbow flexor strain. Poteet hasn't pitched for the Yankees since June 12, but he's back to full health after a two-month absence due to a triceps strain. He resumed pitching in the minors Aug. 20 and accrued a 2.29 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 19.2 innings over his final six appearances between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset before their seasons recently ended.

Poteet's first three rehab outings came with Double-A Somerset before he transitioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for his most recent appearance Sept. 5. Poteet has now faced hitters on two occasions as he looks to return from the right tricep strain that has kept him on the shelf since mid-June. The righty reliever is on the 60-day injured list and is eligible to be activated Aug. 17, but he's likely tracking toward a return at some point after that, as he'll need to pitch in at least a couple minor-league contests beforehand. Poteet (3-0) earned the win over Kansas City on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two batters over 5.1 innings.
Poteet was staked to a 6-0 lead after one inning and cruised through five scoreless frames before the Royals scored their first two runs in the sixth. The right-hander had plenty of cushion at that point and ended up with his third victory across four starts. Poteet has completed six innings just once in those outings, but he's put up a great 2.14 ERA and 1.05 WHIP despite a not-so-great 13:7 K:BB over 21 innings.
