Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Takes loss despite quality start
Gore (2-3) came away with the loss against the Orioles on Thursday. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out eight across six innings.
Gore faced the minimum number of batters in three of the first four innings. He gave up both of his runs in the fifth frame, and while he bounced back to retire the side in the sixth, Gore wasn't able to get enough run support from the Nationals' offense to avoid the loss. Gore generated 14 whiffs in 99 pitches (66 strikes), and his 53 strikeouts leads the majors. He'll look to get back in the win column next week on the road against the Phillies.

Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Strikes out 13 in win
Gore (2-2) earned the win against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts over six innings.
Gore surrendered a two-run homer in the second inning but was otherwise dominant in the challenging environment of Coors Field. He racked up a whopping 28 swinging strikes on 104 pitches, including 14 on his curveball, and now has two 13-strikeout performances through five starts this season. He'll carry a 3.41 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB across 29 innings into a home matchup with the Orioles next week.

Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Friday's game postponed
Gore won't start as scheduled Friday at Colorado since the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
Denver is experiencing some snow Friday, so an early call was made to postpone the series opener. The game will be made up via a doubleheader Sunday, with Gore likely to take the mound Saturday or during the twin bill.

Gore (1-2) took the loss against the Marlins on Sunday. He allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out seven across six innings.
Gore needed 105 pitches (of which 64 were strikes, including 11 whiffs) to reach six innings Sunday, and while he fanned seven batters for a second consecutive game, he wasn't able to get enough run support to avoid the loss. Gore leads the National League with 32 strikeouts, and through four starts he's registered a 3.52 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 23 innings. He'll look to get back into the win column in his next start, which is tentatively slated for next weekend on the road against the Rockies.

Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Fans seven in victory
Gore (1-1) earned the win Monday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven.
Gore stifled the star-studded Dodgers, generating an impressive 15 whiffs in this 100-pitch outing. The only blemish on the Washington left-hander's outing was a two-run homer yielded to Shohei Ohtani in the third inning. Gore has opened his season on an impressive run, pitching to a 2.65 ERA, supported by a 2.38 FIP, with 25:3 K:BB across 17 innings. The 26-year-old currently lines up to make his next start at Miami this weekend.

Gore (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays. He allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings.
Gore allowed only one hit in his Opening Day start against the Phillies on March 27, but he ran into more trouble Wednesday. Despite generating 18 first-pitch strikes and 12 whiffs, Gore allowed at least one baserunner in four of the five innings he worked, though he limited the damage to three runs by stranding eight men on base. The 26-year-old southpaw will look to earn his first win of the 2025 season in his next start, which is tentatively slated next week at home against the Dodgers.

Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Dominates with six one-hit innings
Gore didn't factor into the decision Thursday after allowing one hit over six scoreless innings during a loss to the Phillies. He struck out 13 without walking a batter.
It was a brilliant showing by the southpaw, whose dominance notably came against a star-studded Phillies lineup. A Kyle Schwarber single in the second inning would end up spoiling what was an otherwise perfect outing from Gore, who starts his third full major-league season looking to take a big step forward. Per Chad Jennings of The Athletic, Hall of Famer Bob Gibson is the only other pitcher in MLB history to strike out at least 13 batters on Opening Day without giving up a run or issuing a walk.

Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Locked in for Opening Day start
The Nationals announced Monday that Gore will start the team's March 27 season opener versus the Phillies in Washington.
Coming off a 2024 season in which he submitted a 3.90 ERA and struck out 181 batters over 166.1 innings, Gore entered the spring as the odds-on favorite to receive the Opening Day nod. The 25-year-old southpaw only strengthened his case to begin the season at the front of the rotation after breezing through his first two Grapefruit League starts, covering 8.1 scoreless innings while striking out 10 and scattering four hits and four walks. Gore will make his third start of the spring Monday versus the Cardinals and should have one more tune-up outing this weekend before taking the hill Opening Day.
