Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Breaks out with three hits
Rotowire
Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's 10-7 loss to the Guardians.
After Cleveland surged ahead 10-2 in the top of the seventh inning, Reynolds sparked a late comeback attempt with his two-out solo shot off Tim Herrin in the bottom of the frame. The 30-year-old outfielder had gone hitless over his prior three games, and he continues to have trouble making consistent contact -- his other two at-bats Friday resulted in strikeouts, and his 34.1 percent K rate through 20 contests is by far a career worst -- but Reynolds is still providing a steady fantasy floor, batting .270 (10-for-37) over his last 10 games with two homers, five RBI and five runs.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Returning to outfield Thursday
Rotowire
Reynolds (triceps) will start in right field and bat second in Thursday's game against the Nationals.
Reynolds will be making his first start in the outfield since March 30, as he had been limited exclusively to designated-hitter duties over the past two and a half weeks while managing right triceps soreness. The 30-year-old was apparently able to resume a throwing program without issue in recent days, and the Pirates are now comfortable enough with his health to have him play defense again. Pittsburgh had been getting by with a committee of Andrew McCutchen, Jack Suwinski and Alexander Canario in right field, but assuming Reynolds is ready to play in the outfield on a regular basis moving forward, McCutchen will likely end up seeing the bulk of the starts at DH.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Hits in four straight
Rotowire
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Nationals.
Reynolds remains limited to designated-hitter duties as he manages triceps soreness, though he has started to show some life at the plate. He has a modest four-game hitting streak, but the fantasy impact has been minimal as his only counting stats in that span came during Monday's performance.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Goes deep Tuesday
Rotowire
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.
Reynolds got the Cardinals on the board with a solo home run in the fourth. The 30-year-old now has four extra-base hits and four RBI over his last four games, though he's striking out at a 31.4 percent clip early on in the season, which is much higher than his career average.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Not in Monday's lineup
Rotowire
Reynolds is out of the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Cardinals.
It's the first day off this season for Reynolds, who is still not ready to play the outfield as he deals with right triceps soreness. Alexander Canario is getting the call in right field Monday while Andrew McCutchen serves as the Pirates' designated hitter.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Not yet ready to play outfield
Rotowire
Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said prior to Sunday's 5-4 11-inning win over the Yankees that Reynolds isn't expected to begin a throwing program until later this week while he manages right triceps soreness and will remain limited to serving as a designated hitter for the time being, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Reynolds, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI on Sunday, has served as the Pirates' DH for six straight games. The Pirates aren't concerned that the injury will be a long-term concern for Reynolds, and his fantasy outlook shouldn't change dramatically in the short term while he's available to fill the DH spot. Rather than Reynolds himself, his injury has had a more negative effect on the fantasy value of Andrew McCutchen, who has made just a pair of starts in right field in the Pirates' last six games. The Pirates likely aren't eager to give McCutchen regular playing time in the outfield, so he's expected to continue sharing right field with Jack Suwinski until Reynolds completes his throwing program.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Hits first homer
Rotowire
Reynolds went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and three strikeouts in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Yankees.
Reynolds continues to be limited to designated hitter while battling triceps soreness that affects his throwing. It's not enough to keep him away from the plate, and he was able to smack his first homer of the season when he went deep off Max Fried in the third inning. Reynolds is batting just .194 with three RBI, two runs scored and one stolen base across eight contests, but he should continue to play regularly as long as his triceps issue doesn't get worse.
Pirates senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Reynolds has been dealing with right triceps soreness that has impacting his throwing, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
It helps explain why Reynolds has been in the designated hitter spot for three straight games and four of the last five contests, as his hitting is not affected. Reynolds has started all seven games so far and it does not sound like the triceps issue will keep out of the lineup. However, it has affected the playing time of Andrew McCutchen, who has been out of the lineup for three straight contests.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Focusing on right field
Rotowire
Reynolds said Tuesday that he's focusing on being a right fielder rather than potentially seeing some time at first base, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Reynolds began working out at first base in September as the Pirates kicked around the idea of using him there at least on a part-time basis. However, even after the injury to Spencer Horwitz (wrist/thumb), it does not sound like Reynolds is being considered as an option to play first base. Fantasy leaguers should not be counting on the 30-year-old gaining dual eligibility.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Staying in outfield for now
Rotowire
Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Tuesday that Reynolds will remain focused on playing the outfield even after the injury to first baseman Spencer Horwitz (wrist), Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Horwitz underwent right wrist/thumb surgery last week and is expected to be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks. Earlier this offseason, the Pirates discussed using Reynolds some at first base, prior to their acquisition of Horwitz. While Reynolds could still eventually see some time at the position, it does not appear he will be one of the prime candidates to fill in there while Horwitz is on the mend. Jared Triolo, Billy Cook and Darick Hall loom as the in-house options to man first base while Horwitz is out.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Expected to see time at first base
Rotowire
The Pirates plan to play Reynolds at first base, at least on a part-time basis, in 2025, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Reynolds has never played first base in pro ball, but he began working out there in September of this past season. The soon-to-be 30-year-old graded out as one of the worst outfield defenders in baseball in 2024, ranking in the first percentile in Outs Above Average. How much action Reynolds ultimately sees at first base could depend not only on how well he takes to the position but also how the Pirates address the position this offseason.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Taking seat Sunday
Rotowire
Reynolds is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
This looks like a breather for Reynolds, who is in the midst of a 3-for-23 cold spell. After totaling 18 home runs in the first half, Reynolds has hit just four homers since the All-Star break, and none since Sept. 2. Billy Cook will get the start in left field, batting ninth against right-hander Hunter Greene.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Belts game-tying homer
Rotowire
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk Monday in a 5-3 victory versus the Cubs.
Pittsburgh was shut out by Jameson Taillon through seven frames before Reynolds turned the tide of the contest in the eighth with a three-run homer off reliever Jorge Lopez to knot the score. The long ball was his 21st of the season, moving him to within five homers of reaching the career-high mark of 27 he set in 2022. Reynolds has gone deep three times in his past seven games and is batting .333 (9-for-27) with six RBI, five walks and two stolen bases over that span.
