  • Adam Ottavino: Re-enters free agency

Ottavino cleared waivers Thursday and elected free agency.

This marks the second time in the past week that Ottavino has opted for free agency after being DFA'd by the Yankees. His previous stint on the open market lasted less than a day before New York brought him back in, though it's unclear if the two sides will reunite this time around.

  • Yankees' Adam Ottavino: Removed from 40-man roster again

The Yankees designated Ottavino for assignment Tuesday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

For the second time in five days, Ottavino has been removed from the Yankees' 40-man roster. He quickly re-signed the first time around, but it's not clear whether the Yankees plan to bring him back again.

  • Yankees' Adam Ottavino: Links back up with New York

Ottavino agreed to a one-year deal with the Yankees on Sunday, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.

Ottavino elected free agency earlier Sunday after he cleared waivers upon being designated for assignment by the Yankees on Friday, but he will now rejoin New York ahead of its three-game series in Detroit that begins Monday. The right-hander has made two scoreless appearances with the Yankees so far this season, allowing two walks while striking out two batters over 1.1 innings.

  • Adam Ottavino: Elects free agency

Ottavino elected to become a free agent Sunday.

Ottavino was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Friday, and he will now enter free agency instead of reporting to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The right-hander made two appearances out of the bullpen with New York, allowing two walks while striking out two batters over 1.1 innings. Ottavino will likely find another suitor in the near future.

  • Yankees' Adam Ottavino: Removed from 40-man roster

The Yankees designated Ottavino for assignment Friday.

The transaction frees up a spot on the active roster for Devin Williams, who returned from paternity leave. Ottavino made two appearances during his brief stint with the Yankees, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings. The veteran reliever will likely clear waivers and then look for a gig with a new organization.

  • Yankees' Adam Ottavino: Links up with New York

The Yankees signed Ottavino to a one-year contract Tuesday.

Ottavino failed to make the Red Sox's Opening Day roster after signing a minor-league contract, but he's now joined their rival on a big-league pact. The veteran reliever is absorbing the roster spot vacated by Devin Williams, who was placed on the paternity list. Ottavino held a 4.34 ERA and 70:23 K:BB over 56 innings for the Mets in 2024.

  • Adam Ottavino: Granted release by Boston

The Red Sox have released Ottavino after he triggered his opt-out clause, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Ottavino was informed Saturday that he wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster, and he subsequently opted out of his minor-league deal. The righty reliever struggled somewhat with a 4.24 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 56 regular-season innings with the Mets last year, but he did manage to pick up 15 holds and a save while posting an 11.2 K/9, so it seems likely that he'll get a look from another organization in need of a veteran bullpen arm.

  • Red Sox's Adam Ottavino: Returns as NRI

Ottavino agreed Tuesday with the Red Sox on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Ottavino pitched for the Red Sox in 2021 prior to spending the last three seasons with the Mets. The veteran reliever held a 4.34 ERA and 70:23 K:BB over 56 innings for New York in 2024 and did not pitch for them in the playoffs. Ottavino can still get right-handed batters out (.536 OPS in 2024) and miss bats (28.6 percent strikeout rate), giving the 39-year-old a decent chance to crack Boston's Opening Day bullpen.

  • Mets' Adam Ottavino: Left off NLCS roster

Ottavino is not part of New York's roster for the National League Championship series against the Dodgers.

Ottavino had a rough regular season by his standards, posting a 4.34 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 60 appearances. He saw few high-leverage opportunities in the second half of the campaign and notched just one hold over his final 20 games. Ottavino's omission from the NLCS roster makes room for the return of Jeff McNeil (wrist), who was added to the roster after ending the regular season on the injured list.
