  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Likely to require rehab stint

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Tuesday that Gimenez (quadricep) is likely to require a minor-league rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day injured list, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Since suffering a right quad strain and landing on the shelf May 9, Gimenez seems to be making good progress in his recovery. He resumed baseball activities last Tuesday and was spotted taking part in running drills and doing some light fielding and throwing work Wednesday, according to Nicholson-Smith. The Blue Jays will likely reassess Gimenez on Thursday before determining whether he'll be ready to begin what's expected to be a brief rehab assignment this weekend.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | MIN

Twins' Jhoan Duran: Blows save, gets win in suspended game

Duran (2-0) got the win after blowing the save in Monday's suspended game against the Guardians. He allowed a run on two hits and no walks while striking out one in the ninth inning.

The two teams finished up the suspended contest prior to Wednesday's regularly scheduled game, and the Minnesota closer was called upon to protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning after Joe Ryan allowed the first two batters to reach. Duran was unable to maintain the lead but still got the win since the Kody Clemens delivered a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the frame. It's the first blown save of the year in nine chances for Duran, who entered the contest having not given up an earned run in his previous 11 appearances. He's been dominant early in 2025 with a 1.21 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 26:9 K:BB across 26 innings.

  • Adael Amador 2B | COL

Rockies' Adael Amador: Grabbing seat Thursday

Amador is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Phillies.

It's a day off for Amador, who had started each of the previous six games. Aaron Schunk is handling second base duties and batting eighth for the Rockies in the series finale.

  • Sam Long RP | KC

Royals' Sam Long: Moving assignment to Triple-A

The Royals are expected to transfer Long's rehab assignment from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Long has been on the injured list since April 13 due to left elbow inflammation but made his return to game action with the Royals' ACL affiliate Tuesday, when he struck out a batter and allowed one run on two hits and no walks. The southpaw will face a stiffer challenge as he shifts his rehab to the Triple-A level, where he'll likely make at least a handful of appearances before the Royals activate him. Once he's reinstated, Long is likely to fill a low-leverage role out of the Kansas City bullpen.

  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Out of lineup again Thursday

Toglia is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Phillies.

It's the second straight day and third time over the last six games that Toglia has been absent from the Rockies' lineup. The switch hitter does not appear to be injured, so it could be that he's losing his grip on a starting job. Toglia leads all of baseball with 71 strikeouts this season and has struck out at a 41.7 percent clip in May. Kyle Farmer is at first base for a second straight day Thursday.

  • Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Set to begin rehab assignment

The Reds announced that Encarnacion-Strand (back) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Shortly after being placed on the injured list April 17 due to lower-back inflammation, Encarnacion-Strand reported to the Reds' spring training facility in Arizona to conduct his rehab program. His back has apparently responded well since he resumed ramping up his baseball activities in recent weeks, and he's now been deemed ready to test himself in a game setting. He'll likely stick around in Arizona for a few games before eventually transferring his rehab assignment to a higher-level affiliate, and a return from the IL by the end of next week could be a possibility if everything goes smoothly. Before landing on the shelf, Encarncion-Strand had been serving as Cincinnati's primary first baseman but slashed just .158/.183/.298 over 60 plate appearances. With Spencer Steer having since settled in at first base over the past month and having picked up the pace at the plate following a slow start to the season, Encarnacion-Strand may not have an everyday spot in the Cincinnati lineup waiting for him once he returns.

  • Padres' Jason Heyward: Taking seat against RHP

Heyward is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

The left-handed-hitting Heyward typically hits the bench when the Padres face southpaws, but the veteran outfielder will get a breather for the day game after a night game while Toronto sends righty Bowden Francis to the hill. Brandon Lockridge will step in as the Padres' starting left fielder in place of Heyward, who is batting just .179 on the season even with San Diego limiting his exposure to left-handed pitching.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Rare day off Thursday

Bogaerts is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.

Bogaerts will be getting just his second day off of the season and his first since April 19. Jose Iglesias will handle shortstop duties and bat eighth for the Padres on Thursday.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Out of Yankees' lineup

LeMahieu is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Rangers.

LeMahieu has been the Yankees' primary second baseman since returning from the 10-day injured list last week, but he'll get a breather for Thursday's series finale. Jorbit Vivas is covering the keystone and Oswald Peraza is at the hot corner.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Idle for day game

Wells is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.

Wells will get a breather for Thursday's matinee after he caught all nine innings of Wednesday's 4-3 win while going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. He remains entrenched as the Yankees' No. 1 catcher, but Wells is in the midst of a bit of a rough patch at the plate, having slashed .129/.256/.290 with a 30.8 percent strikeout rate over his last 11 games.
